Punishment is the action of punishing somebody because of the crime or a sin. According to mistakes, there are different types of punishment such as; capital punishment, prison punishment etc. Moreover, the punishment system of countries is different from each other. For example, while capital punishment is abolished in some countries, others apply this punishment for some criminals but in general; prison punishment system is the same everywhere. Nevertheless, some people think that prison punishment is removed but whatever their reasons are; prison punishment should be applied to prevent criminals from committing crimes.
Some may claim that prison punishment should not be applied because some difficulties wait for criminals while in prison and after the punishment. Firstly, according to their ideas, prisons are dangerous. Because there are many criminals who committed terrible crimes in prisons, they are not secure places. However, this does not occur. Since prison guards, who are responsible for all situations in prisons, provide security, there is no danger for criminals. Secondly, opponents think that criminals cannot find a job after the punishment. Since other people have no confidence to criminals, they cannot start to a new life. However, this is a specific example. In general, the government and some companies try to gain them and adapt to society by presenting some opportunities. For example, the government tries to make criminals have a job by giving some job-focused training programs. This shows that criminals can benefit from these facilities. Therefore, these are not reasons to the fact that prison punishment should not be applied.
Opponents of the idea that prison punishment should be applied think that prison punishment is not an effective way to prevent criminals. Firstly, according to their opinions, prison causes waste of time and it does not have benefits for criminals to improve themselves. However, this thought is not correct because in prisons, the government presents some education opportunities such as; parent education for woman imprisonments, sport activities. That is to say, they can improve themselves with the help of these facilities. Secondly, these people claim that if criminals understand their mistakes, they may regret so prison punishment discourage them and they lose their hopes. However, if they regret after committing a crime, they can benefit from remorse law. That is, one can benefit from remorse law to reduce the punishment. That’s why, prison punishment should be applied.
Prison punishment minimizes the rate of crime because of the some reasons. First reason is the fact that prison punishment is deterrent. Prison punishment has an important effect on criminals. They do not commit same crimes again because of the punishment they took before so prison punishment is a clear method to prevent criminals. Moreover, this situation becomes an example to other people who did not commit crime before, and provides reducing the rate of crime. Secondly, thanks to prison punishment, people understand importance of freedom. In prisons, criminals have to obey to some rules. For example, they have limited time to talk with their families or friends. In addition, they have less opportunity than outside. For instance, a woman cannot make beauty cares or go shopping. Namely, some laws restrict their freedom and they have to live according to these laws in prisons. That is why; prison punishment is an obstacle to commit crime for people.
To sum up to have a better society in which the crime rate is in minimum level and people can live peacefully, prison punishment should be applied.

DESTINY
For thousands of years, no idea or belief has been completely accepted by every people. Destiny issue is also one of them. Some people find it logical and then they accepted, but some others find it unlogical and then they became opponents of this issue. In order to decide whether destiny is a reality or not, we can look at the pros and cons of this issue.
Opponents of destiny belief critisize defining of destiny as something to which a person or thing is destined, so they don't believe in it. They think they have the capability of changing everything and don't want to believe in the existence of destiny in spite of their lacking in lots of things. The time when they can't change the direction of life, they think it is only an unlucky moment for them. The opponents also critisize “all the events are predetermined beforehand” according to destiny issue. They think that humans aren't created to live in the direction of their destiny and they have the idea that only choices make the life direct, not other influences.
The people who support the 'destiny' have a famous quote; "Life is but a stage on which we play our role.” So they know not only their capability to change direction of life sometimes but they also know that God gives shape to their life. In addition to this, according to them, destiny is partially predetermined by God and partially formed by human. And they believe God knows their destiny. However, they are aware of the fact that it doesn't mean people are uneffective about their own destiny because they believe God gives a chance named 'free will' to humans. Thanks to free will, they direct their life in the way God gave.

Although it is a very useful source in lots of fields, internet has several negative effects on many things such as making people addicted, making it easy to reach personal information, making lots of thing unimportant.
The usage of internet is increasing day by day. Moreover, even people who do not want to see a computer use it very much. But they don’t use internet for educational purposes. Instead, they use it mostly for fun. They either have chat with people or play games. Sometimes they watch films. The more they try to enjoy, the more they become addicted to it. When they start to play a game they cannot give it up and go on playing even if time is so late. In addition to making addicted, it also causes waste of time.
One of the internet’s disadvantages is that it makes it easy to reach someone’s personal information. Nowadays people use some sites very much especially Facebook. And everyday we hear a new event about stealing of someone’s personal information in Facebook. And the worst one is that it is not the only site in which people can get someone’s personal information. There are a lot of sites like that. And internet threatens people’s life day by day.
If we talk about other bad effects of internet, we surely say that people use it for nearly everything. If we give an example to this, we use SL in our advanced reading and writing course. As it is an international site and its language is English, it will be useful in some aspects. We can improve our English.
You can see that many people use SL and the number of the people who use it is increasing day by bay. You can come across a person from a country about which you don’t know anything. You can make new friends from different countries. Moreover, you can learn something about new cultures.
There are some another things you can do in SL. In addition to its other benefits, you can enjoy at the same time. Because SL provides you with the chance that you can do anything you want. In real world we cannot make real everything we want. Sometimes any small thing becomes a huge hinder for us. But in SL you can even fly.
To some up, SL is a suitable place for you if you are one of the people who want to enjoy and make friends while getting education at the same time.

Teaching effectively is one of the most significant issues in the field of education. To be able to teach in an effective way, teaching methods are very important. So today’s educators try to find new approaches, useful and different techniques for education systems. Nevertheless, as everybody knows, the most popular one is technology and we cannot deny the usefulness of the technological devices. However, there are also people who always use traditional ways. Therefore, which one is better? Is it true to use only technology? On the other hand, is it suitable to use only pen and paper? As both of them have advantages and disadvantages, combining these two in a suitable way is
Using technology in class has some advantages. As technology, especially computers have great effect on our lives and we use it nearly every field, using technology in classes will have a positive effect on not only our school life but also our everyday life. In addition to this, using technological devices in classes makes the lesson enjoyable. Furthermore, some students may learn better, when visual materials are used and computers have many visual things. Besides, sometimes the most suitable technique for a lesson may be technology. For example, in lessons such as listening, pronunciation, speaking and oral communication etc. a teacher will not be enough to teach the subject effectively and using technological devices will become necessary. In addition, a student can get what s/he wants easily through internet. Anyway, there are also some disadvantages of using only technology. Not every student may have computer or internet access and because of this, s/he cannot catch up with the lesson. Furthermore, if there is a power failure, the teacher cannot give the lecture. Besides, using computers too much damages students’ eyes and brain because of its light and radiation.
The other method is traditional one. Using pen and paper in class has some advantages. Firstly, some students may learn better by writing. In a class in which teacher uses the traditional way, students take notes or write down some things. In addition, all of these make easier to learn and remember the subject. Besides, there is eye contact between students and teacher. As people use bogy language while speaking, in a traditional class students and teachers can express themselves better. Moreover, certainly there is social interaction between students. Anyway, there are also some disadvantages of using only pen and paper. Students may get bored with always listening to the teacher. Maybe they do not want to write but see some visual things, animations, pictures etc. Moreover, some students may not learn well by writing.

Travelling is something indispensible for us. Visiting a foreign country, getting to know about different cultures and meeting new people are things nearly everbody likes and wants.Certainly I am one of them :) If I were given a chance to visit a foreign country I want, my choice would be certainly Egypt. My reasons for it are that: its mysterious pyramids, my love for archeology and the films related to it, and my wonder about Cairo.
First of all I would choose Egypt because it is really interesting in some aspects. As you know the most important one is pramids. They are really mysterious structures. For example, if you put a glass of dirty water in the pyramid for some days, you will find it purified. In pyramid, milk can become yoghurt without going off. If you put a glass of water in pyramid, after 5 weeks you can use it body lotion. The inside of the pyramids is hot during winter and cold during summer. Plants grow faster than normal in pyramids. They have such a lot of interesting aspects that I can write only few of them. I want to see and explore them. To tell the truth, I don't want to be deprived of these mysteries.
Secondly, you know whenever people want to make an archeological film, they go to Egypt. I watched some films in which there are lots of things from ancient Egypt, mummies, pharaos etc. As archeology draws my attention very much and the films I watched makes me curious about everything related to archeology, Egypt is the first place I should see.
The other reason for my wish to visit Egypt is my wonder about its capital, Cairo. As it I read some books which includes some interesting parts about Cairo, I want to see this city. I some photos of this nice city and I really like them. This increases my interest.
To sum up, for all reasons I mentioned Egypt will always in my dreams and one day if I have an opportunity I will choose that nice country to explore its beauty and mystries.

My Essay
Everybody has some features and as living creatures, we have some opinions about the friends around us. So naturally, the people I know have some opinions about me, too. Even though I am an ordinary person and most of my friends know nearly everything about me but certainly, they do not know some things such as my love for Kemal Sunal’s film, my interesting dreams and my excessive sensitiveness.
First of all, I easily remember the films in which Kemal Sunal acts especially ‘Hababam Sınıfı’. This can result from the fact I like him and his films very much. Watching it only once is enough for me to remember most of its scenes. The most interesting one is that I can remember each word both Kemal Sunal and the other actors use in the film. I use some speeches of ‘Şaban’ in my daily life. When I see any comic act, I instantly remember one of the scenes of it. If I close my eyes, I can watch most of the film J as if I was watching it in TV.
While I am sleeping, the dreams I have are really interesting. How the dream goes on depends on me. I can change it if I want. This is very nice. While sleeping, I can dream a film I have watched before and even if this film doesn’t have any happy end, I can end it with happiness. Titanic with a happy end is really wonderful J Another interesting aspect of my dreams is that I have nightmares in which there are the Devils L This used to happen to me especially when I was a little child. I could feel their presence. For instance when they were in a building I could know that they were in it and I started trembling. As a child that was really difficult for me. But fortunately it rarely happens to me now. I hope this never happens to anybody because it is really scaring.
I am very sensitive and worried about everything even the most trivial ones. Some people have difficulty in crying. However, I am not one of them. I can cry at any moment and at any situation. You might find this funny but this is the case. Moreover a trivial thing can make me feel sad. Even if there is no logical reason, I can find something to worry and be unhappy. Firstly I should say that I hate talking about me and introducing myself :) Because I have always had some teachers who want me to introduce myself since primary school and I'm fed up with this :) I think the real reason is that it is the most difficult thing in the world ;) I suppose now it is time for being serious ;)
My name is Kübra.I'm from Yozgat and my family lives in Akdağmadeni.It is the most beautiful town of Yozgat.If you have a chance to visit Akdağmadeni, you will see what I mean :)) After graduating from my primary school, I went to Prof Dr Necati Erşen Teacher Training High School.Because this school is in Sivas, I stayed in dormitory for four years and this experience was really beneficial for me.As you guess, in a dormitory you can see every type of people and each of them has a different style, culture etc.During the years I stayed in Sivas I met a lot of different people and all of them had a useful effect on me.By the way Sivas is a very very nice city :) Although I did not have even an idea about Sivas, with the help of its friendly and warm-hearted people I got used to living in a city which is far from my hometown and my family.
When I was preparing for OSS, the university I wanted to go was Boğaziçi.And I don't know why but I didn't want to be in METU.But after coming and seeing METU, I understand I was wrong.And I can even say that it realy deserves to be in lots of people's dreams.
Despite the difficulties I had while meeting people, getting used to living in Ankara and METU wasn't problem thanks to my dear friend Ayşe Güney :)
If I talk about my likes, reading is my favourite hobby.History draws my attention very much.I like reading historical books and watching films which include historical facts and events.I like listening to every type of music except for rap.
My thougts about this course is not very positive :( Because using web so much is very scaring ;) But I think writing essays once a week will be really useful for all of us.As I always have problems with expressing myself by writing, thanks to this course I will have to write ;) And naturally my writing skill will improve.At least I hope so :)
